ID: The book cover drawn by Nara’s kids. White and yellow English and Arabic text reads, “Between the Siege and the Sky: a Memoir of War and Disease in Gaza” by Nara. The background is a gradient of sky blue to dark blue. In the foreground is Nara’s family, including her husband and two young children who are holding hands and frowning. They are surrounded by rubble and planes. The clouds and sun in the sky have sad faces.

About Nara’s Memoir, Between the Siege and the Sky

Cover art hand-drawn by Nara’s children, 13-year-old Jamila and 7-year-old Jenan!

"The sound of the heartbeat pierced my ears and shattered all my dreams. Scattered wishes were spinning in my head with my pain... Until the sound stopped… and the heartbeat stopped… and my pain continued."

One breath changed everything. One war became another. Nara's body carried it all.

Since 2008, Nara has endured the unthinkable as a disabled Palestinian—occupation, genocide, and surviving inside a collapsing healthcare system.

She continues to endure the occupation as a mother of two young children, a college graduate, a multiple sclerosis and cancer patient, and a woman fighting for her future in a body scarred by war and illness.

Part memoir, part testimony, “Between the Siege and the Sky” is Nara's story of survival under siege, of love and loss in the rubble, of a life that refuses to be erased.

About Nara

Nara is a 34-year old disabled Palestinian mother raising two kids, aged 13 and 7, with her husband in Gaza.

Besides surviving genocide, occupation, and apartheid with her family, she also lives with multiple sclerosis, pancreatic cancer, epilepsy, and thrombocytosis.

Her memoir was written through Whatsapp during some of the worst months of the genocide and captures her love for her family and her challenges accessing critical care in a healthcare system destroyed by the occupation.

You can contribute directly to her fundraiser here. This verified campaign is run by Sky Cubacub of Rebirth Garments and TQ Yeo.
